Well, it's not ironic. And it's not a desire to return to any supposed glory days either. It's just a little bit of fun I'm having on line.
Anyone who's followed my blog or my social media or what have you will have noticed by now that I'm a bit of a tech history aficionado. As Marge might say, I just think it's neat.
I've also been thinking about the current era of web design and how stagnant design feels like it's gotten. We've never had more tools to create web sites with, and yet we've also never had more sites that all look exactly the same as each other. It's just all getting a little boring! I want something else from life!
Which inspired me to go back to old personal website and other pages I like, and realized that I can, quite simply, make a webpage just by opening up a text editor and writing up some HTML and I'll have something that stands out simply by not looking like everything else. This is a very 1.0 version of a web 1.0 site, but I like that it's got a little personality just by being a bit different. I also like that it's a little visible reminder that You Can Just Make Webpages and not have it be a big deal. Web sites are a honking great idea -- let's do more of those!
